A new title is entering the sci-fi simulation arena courtesy of Pawsmonaut Games, a solo indie developer based in Edinburgh. Titled AETHUS, the upcoming game blends industrial automation with a strong narrative focus, casting players as Maeve, a former mining engineer attempting to carve out a life independent of the galactic megacorp known as the Astral Resource Corporation (ARC).
Rather than focusing solely on resource management, the game places a heavy emphasis on storytelling. Players will explore the remnants of a failed science expedition and uncover the dark secrets surrounding a powerful new element. The plot aims to deliver a dystopian corporate conspiracy thriller, driven by the protagonist's desire to escape the control of her former employers.
Gameplay and Features
Gameplay in AETHUS revolves around a modular building system that allows players to construct and customize their own mining hubs. The mechanics include refining resources, crafting tools, and maintaining cozy habitats with decorative elements. Players can expect to utilize a variety of tools, from lasers to explosives, to extract hundreds of different resources.
To ensure accessibility for different types of players, the developer has implemented Game Modifiers. These settings can be adjusted at any time, allowing users to toggle between a laid-back exploration experience or a hardcore survival challenge based on their preference.
A Commitment to Ethical Development
In a notable move for the modern gaming landscape, Pawsmonaut Games has publicly committed to an ethical development philosophy. The studio has confirmed that AETHUS will feature no generative AI content, no early access period, and no microtransactions or purchasable cosmetics. As a self-published and self-funded project, the game is being marketed on the premise of a complete, standalone experience.
Players interested in the title can currently add it to their wishlists.
