Unwilling to wait for supply stabilization, major AI firms are shifting their procurement strategies toward solid-state drives (SSDs). specifically prioritizing Quad-Level Cell (QLC) NAND-based options to balance performance with cost efficiency.
Impact on the Consumer Market
This industrial pivot is raising alarms for the consumer electronics sector. Because mainstream consumer SSDs rely heavily on QLC technology to remain affordable, the massive influx of orders from data centers could deplete stock meant for retail channels. Analysts predict this supply squeeze will drive consumer prices even higher, adding to the financial pressure on builders and gamers already navigating record-high hardware costs.
The trend has led manufacturers to a critical juncture. With AI companies aggressively stockpiling inventory, production capacity for QLC NAND is fully booked through 2026.
