Amazon Luna Discontinues Third-Party Stores and Individual Game Purchases

Published on 11 April, 2026

Amazon has announced a significant strategic shift for its cloud gaming platform, Luna, scheduled to take effect in the spring of 2026. Starting April 10, 2026, the service will discontinue support for third-party game stores, individual game purchases, and third-party subscriptions. The company stated that the decision comes from player feedback requesting easier access to games and a desire to focus on content available to Prime members.

Key Service Discontinuations

The update fundamentally changes how users access content on Luna. Several core features are being phased out:

  • A-la-carte Purchases: Users will no longer be able to purchase games individually. Previously purchased titles will remain accessible until June 10, 2026, after which they will be removed from the platform.

  • Third-Party Stores: Integration with platforms such as EA, Ubisoft, and GOG will be terminated.

  • Bring Your Own Library: The feature allowing users to play supported games they owned on external platforms will no longer be supported as of June 3, 2026.

  • Third-Party Subscriptions: Subscriptions for services like Ubisoft+ and Jackbox Games sold through Luna are being discontinued. New subscriptions are immediately unavailable, and existing subscriptions will be cancelled automatically after the next billing cycle.

User Guidance and Data Preservation

For users affected by these changes, Amazon has outlined specific steps regarding save data and subscriptions. Players who purchased games via Luna are advised that while refunds are not being issued, they can still access their titles through linked third-party accounts (such as Ubisoft or Epic Games accounts).

Crucially, save data for affected titles will only be available for download for 90 days following the June 10, 2026 deadline. Amazon encourages users to export their data via the Settings page promptly, noting that compatibility with other platforms is determined by individual publishers and cannot be guaranteed.

Shift to Luna Premium

Moving forward, Amazon is pivoting toward a curated subscription model. The platform will focus on 'Luna Premium,' which offers unlimited access to a library of games without the need for individual purchases. Eligible users affected by the upcoming changes will receive an email with details on how to claim a complimentary offer for this service.
