Apple’s MacBook Neo Supply Struggles to Match Record Demand

MacBook Neo Sales Explode, Leading to Extended Shipping Delays

Apple’s latest laptop, the MacBook Neo, is experiencing a level of demand that has outstripped supply significantly. Following a highly successful launch, new orders placed through Apple’s online storefront are now showing delivery estimates pushed back to May.

Current Availability and Stock Status

Customers ordering the device today should not expect delivery until between May 1 and May 8, effectively marking the product as sold out for the entire month of April. This backlog affects all color options and both the 256GB and 512GB SSD configurations.

While some brick-and-mortar Apple retail locations possess limited stock, availability is inconsistent, with certain stores showing no inventory until May 11. Major third-party retailers, such as Best Buy and Target, are also reporting delivery delays of at least a week.

Production Increases and Market Context

The MacBook Neo’s $599 price point has resonated with consumers, particularly as other PC manufacturers raise prices due to global RAM shortages. Apple CEO Tim Cook described the launch as the "best launch week ever for first-time Mac customers."

To cope with the unexpected volume, Apple has reportedly increased its shipment target for 2026 to 10 million units, nearly doubling the original estimate of five to six million.

Potential Component Bottlenecks

Despite these production efforts, Apple faces potential challenges regarding its component supply. The MacBook Neo utilizes binned A18 Pro chips, a resource that may become scarce if current demand trends continue.

Analysts suggest that Apple might need to restart production of the older A18 Pro chips or transition the laptop to an A19 Pro chip in a future refresh. Further details regarding the device's success are anticipated during Apple's fiscal second-quarter earnings call on April 30.
