Strong Q3 Performance Driven by Assassin's Creed
Ubisoft recently disclosed its financial results for the third quarter of fiscal year 2026, defying pessimistic expectations with a solid performance. The company highlighted that the Assassin's Creed franchise significantly outperformed internal projections, achieving double-digit year-on-year growth in active users. A major contributor to this success was the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows on the Nintendo Switch 2, which allowed the title to reach a wider demographic.
Beyond the new entry in the stealth series, the company noted that the Valley of Memory update for Assassin's Creed Mirage, released in November 2025, also contributed to sustained player engagement. Yves Guillemot, CEO and Co-Founder, commented that the quarter's strong net bookings reflect the robust nature of the company's portfolio and the depth of player involvement across its major brands.
Restructuring Continues Amidst Growth
Despite the positive financial news, Ubisoft is moving forward with its previously announced corporate restructuring. Consultations are currently underway at the Paris headquarters to reduce the headcount by approximately 200 employees. The firm aims to finalize a new operational model by April, which will be organized into five distinct "creative houses."
One of these entities, Vantage Studios, has been operational since October 2025 and will oversee major intellectual properties including Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six. Guillemot emphasized that this transformation is intended to streamline decision-making and heighten creative ambition within a competitive market.
Future Outlook and Rumors
The successful launch on Nintendo's latest hardware suggests a continued partnership between Ubisoft and the platform holder. Industry rumors continue to swirl regarding a remaster or remake of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, further fueled by the recent appearance of a related art book on a retail website. For now, Ubisoft appears focused on stabilizing its business structure while capitalizing on the momentum of its flagship franchises.
