Atlus Boosts Salaries and Reduces Overtime to Attract Top Talent

Published on 16 March, 2026

Atlus, the renowned Japanese developer behind the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei franchises, has announced a significant revision to its employee compensation system. Revealed on March 16, the initiative focuses on increasing starting salaries for new graduates and raising average annual pay for existing staff to foster creativity and secure top talent in a competitive market.

Starting in April 2026, the monthly starting salary for new entry-level employees will increase from 300,000 yen to 330,000 yen (approximately $2,070 USD). Alongside this change, the company confirmed a roughly 15% increase in base yearly salaries for all full-time and contract employees. Atlus stated that investing in human resources is essential for continuing to deliver inspiring experiences to their audience.

Improving Work-Life Balance

Beyond financial incentives, the company is taking steps to improve working conditions. Atlus revealed that fixed monthly overtime work will be reduced from 30 hours to 20 hours. Company representatives noted that despite external economic fluctuations, the goal is to provide employees with a stable living environment and a greater sense of security.

Industry Trends

This strategic move appears to mirror recent efforts by Atlus’s parent company, Sega. In late 2025, Sega implemented similar pay hikes, raising entry-level wages to the same 330,000 yen benchmark while increasing general yearly pay by 10%. As the gaming industry faces fierce competition for skilled developers, Atlus joins other major Japanese publishers like Capcom and Konami in offering substantial raises to attract and retain staff.
