Avowed Launches on PS5 with Massive Anniversary Update Adding New Races and New Game+

Published on 18 February, 2026

Obsidian Entertainment has finalized the post-launch roadmap for Avowed with a substantial anniversary update, released simultaneously with the game’s debut on PlayStation 5. This comprehensive patch introduces a variety of community-requested features, including new playable species and expanded endgame options, marking the title's largest content drop to date.

Expanded Character Creation

The most significant addition in this update is the inclusion of three new playable races. Players can now embody the sturdy Dwarves, the distinct Orlans, or the formidable Aumauan, expanding the roster beyond the original Humans and Elves.

To accommodate existing players who wish to experience these new options without restarting their adventure, a Magic Mirror has been added to the Party Camp. This feature allows users to alter their race, appearance, or gender at any time. Additionally, new character presets and godlike feature variants are now available for further customization.

New Game+ and Custom Difficulty

For those who have completed the main narrative, the new New Game+ mode offers a reason to return to the Living Lands. This mode permits players to carry over unlocked abilities—excluding godlike powers—along with unique weapons and enchantments. To maintain a challenge, enemy stats have been scaled upward, while the player's attribute cap has been raised from 15 to 30.

Beyond the standard difficulty settings, the update introduces custom game modifiers. These granular controls let players adjust specific gameplay parameters, such as enemy health, damage output, and movement speed, as well as player resource pools and inventory capacity.

Quality of Life and New Features

The update also integrates a Photo Mode, enabling players to capture scenic vistas and character moments within the Living Lands. Combat options have been expanded with the addition of the quarterstaff, a brand-new weapon type designed for those preferring a mage-like playstyle.

Various quality-of-life improvements have been implemented, ranging from enhanced lighting effects to the ability to skip previously unskippable dialogue sequences. The development team has also addressed community feedback from the past year, including additions like arachnophobia mode and expanded ability trees for fighter and ranger classes.

Avowed is currently available on Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5, and via Xbox Game Pass.
