Bloodborne Remains a Strong Seller Years After Launch
Bloodborne, FromSoftware’s survival horror action RPG, has continued to move copies well after its initial release. Industry analyst Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics said on X that the game reportedly sold more than 251,000 copies this year alone, bringing its estimated lifetime total to about 10.4 million.
Elliott also suggested the game has generated roughly $317 million in revenue. He noted that more than half a million people played Bloodborne in October through PlayStation Plus, indicating that the title still has a sizable active audience.
Players Are Rotating Between FromSoftware Titles
The October data also highlighted crossover interest between FromSoftware franchises. Elliott said 12 percent of Bloodborne players also played Elden Ring that month, while 6 percent played Dark Souls 3 and 5 percent played Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
He described this as evidence of a persistent segment of gamers who move between FromSoftware games, suggesting that Bloodborne still holds strong appeal alongside the company’s newer releases.
Remaster Talks and PlayStation Exclusivity
Bloodborne remains a PlayStation exclusive and has never officially left the PS4. It can be played on PS5 through backward compatibility, but the version does not appear to make substantial use of the console’s newer hardware, with improvements limited to smoother frame pacing rather than a full visual or performance overhaul.
Remake rumors have circulated for some time. Reports indicated that Bluepoint Games, the studio behind the Demon’s Souls remake, had pitched a Bloodborne project to FromSoftware, but the original developer reportedly did not pursue it.
Former Sony Interactive Entertainment head Shuhei Yoshida has suggested that Bloodborne holds a special place for FromSoftware director Hidetaka Miyazaki. Yoshida speculated that Miyazaki may want to handle any future remake personally, but that his current workload has made that difficult.
