Bungie Responds to Marathon Endgame Feedback

Bungie is actively evaluating player feedback regarding the recently conquered Cryo Archive mission in Marathon. Following the intense race to a world-first completion, Game Director Joe Ziegler confirmed that the studio acknowledges the current endgame structure might be too restrictive for the average player and is looking into potential adjustments.

The Cryo Archive, an intricate endgame activity blending puzzle-solving with extraction shooter mechanics, was cleared by a team named 'Tyraxe,' 'Bravo,' and 'Noxious' after a grueling twelve-hour session. However, the broader community has voiced concerns over the mission's heavy reliance on random number generation (RNG) for essential items known as 'subroutines,' as well as the limitation that the archive is currently only available during weekends.

Potential Changes on the Horizon

Ziegler addressed the community via social media, noting that the team is "ingesting all the thoughts and feedback." Among the key issues being discussed is the brutal RNG governing subroutine drops, which are necessary to unlock the final vault. Ziegler suggested that Bungie is exploring ways to make these drops more guaranteed, though he stopped short of promising a 100% drop rate.

Additionally, the developer is reconsidering the weekend-only scheduling model. Originally implemented to ensure a high player count and limit reward farming, the restriction has alienated players with weekend obligations. Ziegler stated that providing options for those unable to play on weekends is now a priority for the team.

Solo Play Considerations

Beyond scheduling and loot mechanics, Bungie is contemplating the feasibility of solo play. Ziegler mused about the possibility of allowing players to experience the map without joining a crew. While he cautioned that these solutions might take time to implement, the studio has confirmed that discussions regarding the game's evolution are ongoing.
