Bungie has officially credited digital artist Fern "Antireal" Hook in the end credits of its recently released title, Marathon. The artist is listed as a visual design consultant, marking a formal resolution to a dispute that arose last year regarding the unauthorized use of creative assets.
The controversy originally surfaced in May of the previous year when Antireal provided a detailed breakdown showing how their artwork had been utilized in Marathon's closed beta without permission. Bungie acknowledged the findings following an internal investigation. By December, the artist confirmed that a resolution had been reached with Bungie and Sony Interactive Entertainment, though the specifics of that agreement were not initially made public.
It now appears that the resolution involved retroactively crediting the artist for their contributions. While the extent of Antireal's freelance involvement in the final development stages remains unclear, the credit ensures formal recognition within the shipped game. This development coincides with the successful launch of Marathon across Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC, which has already garnered attention for its engaging gameplay mechanics.
