A collection of seminal Capcom titles has officially arrived on the Steam platform. Co-developed by Capcom and GOG, the new releases include the original Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, and Breath of Fire IV. These launches follow previous debuts on the GOG store, extending availability to a wider PC audience.
To celebrate the release, all four titles are currently offered at a launch price of $4.99. Following the promotional period, the standard price will revert to $9.99.
Modernized Features for Classic Games
These re-releases are not direct ports; they come equipped with a suite of quality-of-life improvements designed for modern systems. Key technical upgrades across the board include:
- Enhanced Graphics: An improved DirectX renderer supports modern display modes, including windowed options, vertical synchronization, and integer scaling.
- Visual Filters: Players can adjust anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, and gamma correction to suit their hardware.
- Localizations: The horror titles support multiple languages, including English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese, while Breath of Fire IV includes English and Japanese text.
Game-Specific Improvements
Beyond general rendering fixes, specific titles have received targeted updates. Resident Evil 2 players will find fixes for previously missing text and looping audio bugs, along with immediate access to the '4th Survivor' and 'Tofu' modes. Meanwhile, Breath of Fire IV has addressed crash issues within the battle system and restored missing environmental sounds.
This initiative ensures that these foundational entries in the survival horror and RPG genres remain playable and accessible on contemporary PCs.
