Castlevania: Belmont's Curse Announced by Dead Cells Developers

Published on 05 March, 2026

During the latest State of Play presentation, Konami officially ended the franchise's long hiatus by announcing Castlevania: Belmont's Curse. The project is a collaborative effort between Motion Twin and Evil Empire, the creative teams renowned for their work on Dead Cells and The Rogue Prince of Persia.

A Return to Classic Exploration

Despite the developers' strong association with the roguelite genre, Konami has confirmed that the new title will follow a different path. Tommy Williams, speaking on behalf of Konami, clarified that the upcoming release is a 2D action-exploration game focused on freely traversing expansive, intricately designed maps. He explicitly stated that the game is neither a roguelike nor a roguelite, marking a return to the traditional "Metroidvania" roots of the series.

Setting and Gameplay Details

The narrative transports players to Paris in the year 1499, a time when the city is being engulfed by darkness. The protagonist is a successor to Trevor Belmont, tasked with vanquishing the undead using the family's signature holy whip. The arsenal will also be expanded to include other weapons, such as a sword.

Release Information

While a specific launch date has not yet been announced, Konami expects the game to arrive this year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Physical editions are already available for preorder. This release is part of the 40th-anniversary celebration of the Castlevania IP, with Konami hinting that additional titles may be on the way.
