Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 Pro Update Launches with PSSR and Enhanced Ray Tracing

CD Projekt Red has officially rolled out a free update for Cyberpunk 2077, specifically optimized for the newly released PlayStation 5 Pro. Available starting April 8, the patch aims to leverage the console's advanced hardware capabilities to deliver a significantly enhanced visual experience across Night City.

The development team focused on maximizing the potential of the PS5 Pro's architecture. A central feature of this update is the integration of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). This technology utilizes artificial intelligence to process and upscale pixels individually, resulting in sharper, high-fidelity 4K visuals that bring intricate environmental details to life.

Advanced Lighting Technology

Beyond resolution upscaling, the update significantly upgrades the game's lighting engine. The developers implemented BVH8 (8-way Bounding Volume Hierarchy) support, allowing for more complex ray-traced lighting, shadows, and reflections. This technical advancement ensures that the neon-soaked streets and dynamic lighting of the game world align more closely with the studio's artistic vision.

New Graphics Modes

Recognizing that players prioritize different aspects of gameplay, the update introduces three distinct display modes:

• Ray Tracing Pro: Designed for visual purists, this mode enables all available ray tracing enhancements, including emissive lighting and skylight shadows. It targets 30 frames per second (fps), or 40 fps on displays with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) enabled.


• Performance Mode: This option prioritizes fluidity, offering the highest possible frame rates. On VRR-compatible screens, the game can reach up to 90 fps while maintaining high image quality.


• Ray Tracing Mode: Acting as a middle ground, this setting applies select ray tracing improvements while locking gameplay to a smooth 60 fps.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members via the Game Catalog, inviting a new wave of players to experience this upgraded version of the action RPG.
