Disney Removes 15 Titles from Steam Without Notice
Disney has silently delisted an additional 15 games from the Steam storefront, continuing a trend of unannounced removals that began earlier this year. The move was spotted on SteamDB, revealing that nearly 30 Disney-owned titles have now vanished from the platform in just a few months.
Classic Star Wars Among the Casualties
The latest purge includes a mix of movie tie-ins and older retro titles. Notably, two classic Star Wars games, Dark Forces (1995) and Rebellion, have been affected. While a remastered version of Dark Forces remains available for purchase, the original versions are now inaccessible to new customers. Other removed titles include Bolt, Chicken Little, Disney Universe, and Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier.
Impact on Players and Preservation
As is standard with digital delisting, users who already own these games can still download and play them. However, new players are completely barred from purchasing them. This creates a significant gap in game preservation, particularly for titles that served as tie-ins to popular film franchises and are not available on other modern platforms.
Lack of Explanation
Neither Disney nor Valve has provided an official statement regarding the removals. While delistings often occur due to expired licensing agreements—particularly regarding music or intellectual property rights—the silence leaves the specific motivation for this cull unclear. There is currently no indication if or when these titles might return to the store.
