Evercade Expands Retro Handheld Lineup with Rare Collaboration
Evercade has officially revealed a new addition to its hardware lineup tailored for fans of the iconic British developer, Rare. Known as the Super Pocket Rare Edition, this compact gaming device comes pre-installed with a curated selection of 14 titles spanning Rare's history, from its early days as Ultimate Play the Game to its celebrated Nintendo 64 era.
Hardware Features
The hardware features a design reminiscent of the classic Game Boy, distinguished by vibrant primary colors that pay homage to the developer's legacy. Technical specifications include a 2.8-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 320x240, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and modern USB-C charging support.
Beyond the built-in games, the unit maintains full compatibility with Evercade’s extensive library. This feature allows users to expand their collection via the company’s existing catalog of over 75 cartridges, granting access to a library exceeding 650 titles.
Software Library
While the included game list leans heavily toward Rare's 8-bit origins, it successfully bridges multiple gaming generations. The standout inclusion is the Nintendo 64 classic Banjo-Kazooie, joined by the 16-bit Battletoads in Battlemaniacs.
The collection creates a comprehensive retrospective of the studio's evolution, featuring early home computer hits such as Knight Lore, Atic Atac, Lunar Jetman, and Jetpac. The full lineup includes:
- Banjo-Kazooie
- Conker's Pocket Tales
