Wildlight Entertainment Restructures Post-Launch

Developer Wildlight Entertainment has confirmed a significant reduction in staff just weeks after releasing its debut title, Highguard. The studio announced that while a portion of the team has been let go, a core group of developers will remain to continue supporting the game.

Widespread Reports of Cuts

News of the layoffs first broke via social media when former level designer Alex Graner announced on LinkedIn that he, alongside "most of the team," had been laid off. Graner expressed disappointment, noting that there was unreleased content the team was eager to share with players.

In an official statement released later, Wildlight Entertainment described the decision to part ways with staff members as "incredibly difficult." The studio did not disclose the exact number of employees affected but emphasized their pride in the product created and their gratitude toward the player community.

Uncertain Future for Highguard

Highguard, a free-to-play raid shooter, launched on January 26 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC following a high-profile reveal at The Game Awards 2025. Despite a mixed reception at its reveal, the title recently rolled out its "Episode 2" content update, introducing a new hero, map, and ranked mode.

With a reduced workforce, questions remain regarding the timeline for future updates. The studio has not yet clarified how the layoffs will impact the game's previously announced content roadmap.
