Hytale Update 4: Proximity Voice Chat Arrives Alongside 500 New Blocks

Published on 27 March, 2026

Hytale developers have released Update 4 for the game’s early access version, marking the largest content drop since launch. The patch focuses on strengthening the game's foundations, introducing a highly requested proximity voice chat system and adding over 500 new blocks to the creative inventory.

Proximity Voice Chat and Social Features

The headline feature of this update is the implementation of proximity voice chat. Players can now communicate spatially, with audio attenuating based on distance. The system includes noise suppression, push-to-talk options, and visual indicators that show which player is speaking.

Developer Julia (lazorgurl) explained that the team prioritized making voice communication feel natural within the game world. For safety, the feature is disabled by default for child accounts, with plans to introduce more robust parental controls in the future. This voice system is the first step toward a broader social layer that will eventually include friends lists and party systems.

Massive Block Expansion

The update significantly expands the building palette with approximately 500 new blocks. Half of these are available through standard gameplay and crafting, including complete sets for Limestone, Slate, Chalk, and Cooled Magma. The remaining blocks are accessible via Creative Mode, featuring Cybercity themes and new metal variants like Bronze and Copper.

Structural logic has also been improved; fences and walls now support T-junctions and cross shapes, and natural rock types have received stair and slab variants. The developers noted that these assets serve as the palette for upcoming biomes and dungeons.

Avatar Customization and Creative Tools

Customization receives a boost with a new Emote Wheel, allowing players to perform actions like the "Chicken" dance or "Kill" emote. The system supports looping animations and allows modders to inject custom emotes through local files. Additionally, seven new hairstyles have been added to the character creator.

For builders, a new Revolve tool has been added to the Creative toolkit. This function allows users to paste rotational copies of a selection around a center point, streamlining the creation of symmetrical structures.

Future Development

The developers described this release as another foundational update necessary for future content expansion. While the team continues to hire new talent, they have also launched the 'Hytale New Worlds Modding Contest' in collaboration with CurseForge, offering a $100,000 prize pool to encourage community content creation.
