Warhorse Studios has announced that Daniel Vávra, the director and writer responsible for the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series, is transitioning away from active game development. Instead, Vávra will spearhead a cinematic adaptation of the medieval RPG franchise, aiming to bring the world of Bohemia to the big screen.
A New Role in Transmedia
According to statements made to the Czech press, Vávra's new position could effectively be described as a "transmedia director." Studio head Martin Frývaldský clarified that this move is not indicative of a rift between Vávra and the studio. Rather, it fulfills Vávra's long-standing desire to explore new creative avenues following the global success of his previous titles.
"You won't see him in the office every day anymore, but in a broader sense, he is still part of Warhorse," Frývaldský explained. He emphasized that Vávra personally sought this change after delivering three successful games.
The Road to the Silver Screen
The project is already in motion, with a draft script reportedly completed. Warhorse Studios is currently in negotiations with various production firms to move the project forward. The studio views the film as a complementary piece to their gaming IP, capitalizing on the brand's significant growth in recent years.
The announcement comes on the heels of significant commercial success for the studio. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was a major hit, selling five million copies in its first year and earning nominations at prestigious ceremonies like The Game Awards and BAFTA. The franchise's success has allowed the studio to expand to over 250 employees since the release of the original title, which sold 8 million copies.
