The layoffs were announced less than 24 hours after Meta revealed a new stock program for six of its top executives. This initiative could potentially increase individual compensation by hundreds of millions of dollars over the next five years. The company stated that these aggressive financial incentives are necessary to retain leadership talent essential for its AI ambitions.
