A new title is entering the roguelite genre, aiming to blend narrative-heavy visual novel elements with strategic deckbuilding. Titled Armita's Search, the game places players in a post-apocalyptic wasteland known as the Barrens, tasking them with guiding a young girl searching for her kidnapped father.
A Focus on Narrative and Consequence
Unlike traditional entries in the genre, the game places a heavy emphasis on story branching and character development. Players control Armita, who is accompanied by a robot bodyguard named Fred. The core loop revolves around a unique resource system where "Humanity" is the primary currency.
The developers have implemented a mechanic where kindness acts as a difficulty setting. Choosing to stay humane creates a more challenging experience, while hardening one's heart makes survival easier. These decisions impact available actions, how the world treats the player, and ultimately determine which of the multiple endings is achieved.
Tactical Combat and Deck Construction
Gameplay is divided into regions, each offering a fresh start with a new deck. Players select a preset for Armita and two companions, instantly creating a small, synergistic deck. Companions are not just static cards; they are fully realized characters with their own goals, stories, and reactions to the player's moral choices.
Battles are turn-based and prioritize planning over reflexes. Enemies telegraph their intentions, allowing players a full turn to strategize. The combat system supports up to five fighters per side and utilizes cover mechanics that degrade over time rather than vanishing instantly. Players must also manage "Trouble cards"—negative status effects like radiation or illness that clog the deck and complicate battles.
Part of a Larger Universe
Armita's Search is set within the broader Raiders World universe, which previously saw a board game release in 2017. The project is part of an ambitious roadmap that includes plans for a tabletop RPG, a comic series, and future video game titles exploring different genres within the same setting. The game promises high replayability through random events, varying enemy squads, and unlockable presets that evolve as the protagonist grows up.
