Nex Playground Raises Price to $299
Nex Inc. has announced that the retail price for its Nex Playground gaming console will increase to $299 USD starting April 1st. While the hardware cost is rising, the company confirmed that the subscription price for its Play Pass service will remain unchanged.
AI Infrastructure Impacts Hardware Costs
In a letter addressed to the Nex community, Co-founder and CEO David Lee explained that the decision was driven by significant cost increases for essential components, specifically DDR memory and eMMC storage. Lee noted that these rising expenses are a direct result of the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure, which is reshaping global supply and demand dynamics for electronic parts.
The consumer electronics company stated it had attempted to absorb these rising costs internally for as long as possible. However, current market levels have made absorbing the expense unsustainable for the business moving forward.
Balancing Accessibility and Sustainability
The announcement acknowledged that the price adjustment may make the device less accessible for some families. Lee apologized for the impact but emphasized that the price change is necessary to maintain a responsible and sustainable business for the long term.
Despite the hardware price hike, Nex reiterated its commitment to providing long-term value through its family-focused gaming platform. The company aims to continue improving the Nex Playground experience, ensuring it remains a viable option for family entertainment and activity.
