NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang Refutes DLSS 5 Critics, Emphasizes Developer Control

During a press Q&A session at this year's GTC event, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang addressed the ongoing criticism surrounding the newly announced DLSS 5. Huang firmly rejected the negative sentiment, stating that critics are "completely wrong" in their assessment of the technology.

Huang clarified that DLSS 5 is not merely a post-processing effect applied at the frame level. Instead, he described it as a form of "neural rendering" that fuses controllability of geometry and textures with generative AI. According to the CEO, this distinction allows game developers to maintain direct control over the artistic output, enabling them to fine-tune visuals to their specific requirements, whether that involves toon shading or realistic glass textures.

Industry Response and Developer Concerns

Bethesda also entered the conversation regarding the new tech, responding to discussions on social media about lighting analysis. The studio assured fans that the initial demonstrations represent a very early look. They emphasized that final lighting effects will remain under the direct control of their art teams and that the feature will be entirely optional for players.

Despite the executive's confidence in the tool, a report from Insider Gaming reveals a potential disconnect between NVIDIA and its development partners. Sources at studios that have already agreed to implement DLSS 5, including Ubisoft and Capcom, claim they were informed about the technology at the same time as the general public.

The revelation was reportedly particularly shocking for Capcom developers. Insiders noted that the publisher has historically held an anti-AI stance regarding projects like Resident Evil Requiem. There is now internal concern that this high-profile announcement could force a shift in the publisher's philosophy regarding generative AI implementation.
