A New Home for Vintage Titles

A substantial collection of retro Warhammer video games has found a new home on Steam following a collaboration between publisher SNEG and Games Workshop. The partners have introduced the "Warhammer Classics" label, an initiative designed to restore and preserve the digital legacy of the franchise. Spanning a history that reaches back to the 1990s, this catalog covers a wide array of genres, including real-time strategy, turn-based tactics, fantasy sports, and first-person shooters.

According to SNEG, the restoration process involved updating each title to ensure compatibility with modern hardware and operating systems. While the technical updates allow for smoother performance on today's computers, the publishers emphasized that the original gameplay experiences cherished by fans have been preserved.

Steam Debuts and Returning Favorites

The initiative is particularly significant for preservationists, as it marks the first time seven specific titles have appeared on the Steam digital storefront. Among the games making their Steam debut are Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat, Final Liberation: Warhammer Epic 40,000, and Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate. Other newcomers include Warhammer 40,000: Rites of War, Warhammer: Dark Omen, Warhammer 40,000: Fire Warrior, and the Warhammer: Mark of Chaos - Gold Edition.

In addition to the new arrivals, a dozen previously released titles have returned to the platform. This wave includes various entries from the Space Hulk and Talisman series, alongside tactical games such as Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon and Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach. The full list encompasses a diverse mix of developers and publishers, ranging from Slitherine and Nomad to Auroch Digital and Focus Home Interactive, ensuring that a broad spectrum of the franchise's PC history is now readily accessible to modern audiences.
