Pearl Abyss has officially announced that the primary development team behind Crimson Desert has transitioned to working on their upcoming title, DokeV. The shift in manpower comes after the successful launch of Crimson Desert, which has reportedly sold over 3 million copies and seen its reviews improve following a significant post-launch update.
Development Resources Realigned
According to a report by the South Korean publication INVEN, the news was confirmed during a recent shareholder meeting. Pearl Abyss CEO Heo Jin-young addressed the timeline, explaining that the studio announced three new titles in 2019. Development has been lengthy due to the dual challenge of creating the games and building the proprietary Blackspace engine simultaneously.
While the DokeV team had been working on graphic assets and parallel tasks, Crimson Desert required more development time than anticipated. With Crimson Desert now released, the company is consolidating its core talent to speed up production on DokeV.
Timeline and Recent Controversies
The CEO provided an estimate regarding the remaining timeline for DokeV, suggesting it will take approximately two to three years from the current schedule to complete and polish the game.
In addition to the development shift, Pearl Abyss recently released a massive patch for Crimson Desert, implementing numerous fixes and making the gameplay more accessible. The studio has also been navigating community backlash regarding an AI art scandal, addressing the issue publicly through social media apologies.
