In a major policy update aimed at the Brazilian market, Riot Games has announced strict compliance measures aligned with the Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente (ECA). The new protocols, set to take effect on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, mandate the implementation of age verification systems and parental control tools, significantly impacting the gaming experience for minors.
Immediate Impact on Players
Starting Monday, March 16, 2026, all players aged 18 and older will be required to complete an age verification process upon login. Riot Games has outlined several approved methods for this verification, including the use of CPF numbers, payment card details, scanned identity documents, or facial estimation technology. This initiative is designed to ensure that all players meet the minimum age requirements for the company's gaming ecosystem.
Restrictions for Under-18 Players
The most significant change affects players under the age of 18. Due to legal requirements, specific titles will be temporarily reclassified to an 18+ rating effective Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Consequently, minors will lose access to the following games:
- League of Legends
- Teamfight Tactics
- League of Legends: Wild Rift
- 2XKO
- Legends of Runeterra
Riot Games stated that accounts belonging to minors for these titles will be paused and secured. The company aims to evaluate these games against ECA requirements with the goal of returning them to their original age ratings by early 2027.
Specific Rules for Valorant
Valorant will operate under a distinct set of guidelines. Unlike the titles listed above, players aged 12 to 17 will not be completely blocked but will require parental consent to continue playing. These players must provide a parent or legal guardian's email address, allowing the guardian to authorize access through Riot's parental control portal.
Riot Games assured the community that accounts blocked during this transition remain safe. Access to games and account progress will be restored once compliance evaluations are complete and parental approval is verified where applicable. The verification process utilizes an external service known as Kids Web Services.
