Riot Games Confirms Layoffs in Publishing Division
Riot Games has implemented a new round of workforce reductions, specifically targeting its internal publishing sector. A company representative verified that approximately 12 positions have been eliminated, impacting three distinct publishing teams across various office locations.
According to the studio, these specific cuts coincided with other minor, team-specific organizational changes. The developer, widely recognized for blockbuster titles such as League of Legends and Valorant, stated the decision was part of a broader realignment of resources.
Context of Recent Restructuring
This news emerges just two weeks after the company announced significant changes to the development team of 2XKO, its upcoming fighting game set in the League of Legends universe. In that previous instance, Riot laid off around 80 employees, accounting for nearly half of the game's global development team.
A spokesperson noted that the 2XKO reductions were a result of the title failing to secure a sufficiently wide audience during its development phase. Despite the staff cuts, the company has pledged to continue supporting the project with a more focused workforce.
Company Background
Acquired fully by Chinese conglomerate Tencent in 2015, Riot Games remains a dominant force in the industry. The studio continues to manage a robust portfolio of live-service games, including Teamfight Tactics, Legends of Runeterra, and League of Legends: Wild Rift.
