Developer Proteus Interactive has announced Roll The Bones, a new roguelite title currently scheduled for release in Q1 2026. While the full launch is still distant, the studio has invited players to request access to an upcoming playtest via the Steam platform.
A New Spin on Dungeon Crawling
The core gameplay loop of Roll The Bones centers on the strategic use of "spell-dice." Players must carefully curate a loadout of dice before entering a dungeon floor. Each die features six sides, with individual faces containing distinct spells that can vary wildly in utility—ranging from powerful attacks to detrimental effects that might harm the player.
Success in the game depends on the player's ability to adapt their dice loadout to the specific challenges of each floor. The developers emphasize that some spell outcomes can be "terrible" or even self-destructive, adding a layer of risk management to the action.
Customization and Combat Mechanics
The title offers deep interaction with its magical systems. Players can modify how spells behave on critical rolls, allowing for specialized builds focused on damage, status effects, or chaotic outcomes. As players progress, they can collect rare modifiers to further alter spell physics and behaviors.
Additionally, the game features an arcade-style combo system. By maintaining high combo scores, players can charge "Artifacts" that function as ultimate abilities. These can be triggered mid-run to unleash powerful effects such as thunderstorms or meteor rains.
System Requirements and Availability
Proteus Interactive has released the preliminary system requirements for those interested in the playtest. The game requires a minimum of Windows 7, 8GB of RAM, and a GTX 670 graphics card. For an optimal experience, the developers recommend Windows 10, 16GB of RAM, and a GTX 1050 or better. Interested users can currently add the game to their wishlist or request playtest access through the official Steam store page.
