Sony Interactive Entertainment has once again scrubbed its digital storefronts, removing the full game libraries of publishers accused of distributing low-quality content. Titles from GoGame Console Publisher, VRCForge Studios, and Welding Byte are no longer available for purchase on PlayStation platforms.
The mass delisting was initially spotted by users on PSNProfiles. Specific titles wiped from the store include Urban Driver Simulator, Water Blast Shooter - Wet Gun, Racing Car Chaos, and Jesus Simulator. This crackdown appears to target developers utilizing "asset flips" or AI-generated content that closely mimics the names of successful indie games to mislead consumers.
A Continued Effort to Clean House
This is not an isolated incident but part of a broader strategy by Sony to curate the PlayStation Store. Earlier this year, the platform holder removed over a thousand games linked to a single developer in a massive sweep aimed at reducing shovelware on the PS5 marketplace. By targeting publishers whose portfolios consist largely of low-effort releases, Sony aims to improve the overall user experience and visibility for legitimate developers.
Industry-Wide Issues with Scam Apps
The problem of deceptive listings is not unique to consoles. The legal landscape surrounding these practices is also heating up, as evidenced by Mob Entertainment's recent lawsuit against Google. The creators of Poppy Playtime have taken legal action, alleging that the Google Play Store failed to remove fraudulent apps that used names like Poppy Playtime: Chapter 3 to trick users. These industry-wide movements highlight a growing intolerance for bad actors exploiting digital storefronts.
