Square Enix Forces Closure of Japanese Blog 'Netoge Sokuh' Following Defamation Settlement

Published on 03 March, 2026

Square Enix has successfully secured the shutdown of a Japanese news aggregation blog following a legal dispute regarding the defamation of its employees. The publisher announced on March 2 that it had reached a settlement with the anonymous administrator of Netoge Sokuh (formerly known as FF14 Sokuh), resulting in the site's imminent closure.

The conflict arose after the blog published content deemed harmful to the reputation of Square Enix executives and employees. In response, the company filed a request with the site's internet service provider to disclose the identity of the anonymous administrator. Once the provider complied and the individual was identified, Square Enix entered into negotiations, leading to a formal settlement.

Under the terms of the agreement, the administrator has issued a public apology, agreed to pay an undisclosed settlement fee, and confirmed that the blog will be shut down permanently. In the published apology, the administrator stated that there was no intention to infringe upon the rights of individuals or organizations but expressed regret for the concerns caused.

A Stance Against Harassment

This legal action aligns with Square Enix's broader Group Customer Harassment Policy, which was established in January 2025. At the time of the policy's implementation, the company cited increasing instances of defamation, violence, and threats against its workforce.

Square Enix reiterated its commitment to protecting its staff, stating that it will continue to pursue strict legal measures against conduct that threatens the safety or mental well-being of its officers and employees. The company aims to maintain a healthy workplace environment by taking a hard line against harassment and defamation campaigns.
