Star Wars: KOTOR Remake Development Confirmed by Saber Interactive

Published on 07 March, 2026

In a recent update that will reassure fans of the classic RPG, Saber Interactive has confirmed that the upcoming Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) remake is still in development. Tim Willits, the Chief Creative Officer at Saber Interactive, addressed the project's status during a recent interview, stating simply, "Yes, it is still in development. That's all I can say."

A Long-Awaited Update

The confirmation comes after a prolonged period of silence since the game's initial reveal in 2021. The modern reimagining of BioWare’s beloved classic has faced significant speculation regarding its future. Reports from late 2025 suggested that Aspyr, the original developer, was no longer leading the project. Instead, development responsibilities were reportedly transferred to Mad Head Games, the studio behind the upcoming Hellraiser: Revival.

Potential Expansion of the Series

Beyond the first game, industry insiders have revealed that plans were previously discussed regarding a full remake of the sequel, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2. Douglas Reilly of Lucasfilm Games noted that a project codenamed "Juliet" was conceived to bring the second title to modern hardware with updated graphics and gameplay mechanics while preserving the original story and characters.

Looking Forward

The confirmation of the KOTOR remake's continued development follows the announcement of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, a new single-player RPG revealed at the 2025 Game Awards led by former KOTOR director Casey Hudson. Saber Interactive is also currently working on a John Wick game and recently secured an ESRB rating for Hellraiser: Revival.
