The incident occurred shortly after President Donald Trump announced the successful recovery of a U.S. airman who had been stranded in Iran following the downing of an F-15 aircraft.
A Case of Mistaken Identity
Following the announcement of the rescue operation, Abbott shared an image depicting a smiling soldier holding an American flag while surrounded by a rescue team. He captioned the post, "This is so awesome," echoing a previous post that referred to the soldiers doing "God's work."
However, the image was immediately flagged by a community note on the platform, clarifying that the photo was AI-generated. The warning stated that the Pentagon had not released any official images of the rescue mission or the colonel due to operational security.
