Windows 11 Update KB5077181 Triggers Critical Boot Loops and Network Failures

Published on 14 February, 2026

Microsoft’s latest Windows 11 update is rendering systems unusable, prompting urgent warnings for users to pause automatic updates.

Released earlier this week, update KB5077181 (Build 26200.7840) has been linked to catastrophic system failures. The most critical issue involves an infinite boot loop, where affected devices restart repeatedly—sometimes over 15 times—before arriving at a broken login screen. This prevents users from accessing their desktops.

Widespread System Failures

According to user reports on Microsoft Learn, the boot loop is often accompanied by a System Event Notification Service (SENS) error. This message indicates that a specific procedure could not be found, effectively blocking the login process.

Connectivity issues are also rampant. Users have reported losing internet access despite maintaining a Wi-Fi connection, a problem attributed to DHCP errors. Furthermore, attempts to install the update have failed for some, resulting in error codes 0x800f0983 and 0x800f0991. While the System File Checker tool (sfc /scannow) resolved installation errors for a few users, it does not fix the boot loop issues.

Immediate Workarounds Available

IT professionals and affected users have identified uninstalling the update as the only reliable solution currently available. This can be performed via the Control Panel (Programs and Features > View installed updates) or through recovery mode using the command:

wusa /uninstall /kb:5077181 /quiet /norestart

Because Windows 11 may attempt to reinstall the problematic patch automatically, users are strongly urged to pause updates temporarily. Microsoft has not yet released an out-of-band fix or officially acknowledged the specific boot loop issue on the Windows Release Health dashboard, though users are encouraged to monitor the page for future announcements.
